City Attorney Corbin Gordon said the ordinance would eliminate the need for future mayoral executive orders by allowing applicable restrictions to take effect automatically when the county or state declares elevated fire conditions. Council members expressed unanimous support for the Mayor’s decision to prohibit fireworks during the recent drought, noting the restrictions prioritized public safety and helped protect the community.
The Council also ratified Executive Order 2026‑01, the mayor’s emergency order that temporarily adopted Wasatch County fire restrictions within Midway prior to July 4. The ratification ensures the emergency action is formally reflected in the city’s official record.
Council members asked staff to continue public‑education efforts alongside enforcement, particularly regarding children riding high‑speed e‑bikes and electric motorcycles without helmets, which the Mayor flagged as an emerging safety concern. Deputy Chief Branden Russell said the police department will explore educational outreach, social media messaging and informational videos in addition to targeted enforcement.
