A transfer document read aloud by a board member recorded a May 25 transfer in which Marguerite Schmidt transferred five lots in the older middle section of Calvert City Cemetery to Mike and Nita Hale for $1,375 (listed as $2.75 per lot on the document). Members said the submission included a canceled check and receipt, and they judged the paperwork sufficient to support a claim. "She's got what she needs," one member said after the document was shown.
Board members discussed a claimant/transfer form prepared by attorney Ashley (participating by Zoom). Several members said the current five‑page form is too long for routine intake and recommended condensing it so staff and residents can complete it more easily; others cautioned that removing fields could omit information necessary to establish ownership. Ashley agreed to condense the form and return an edited version for review.
Staff also demonstrated a new cemetery management software and described plans to publish a searchable online map of lots, ownership and veteran status and to add a calendar for funeral services. Ward said the online mapping will help residents locate graves and assess lot surroundings for research and purchasing decisions; the board discussed limiting ceremonial video content and noted memorial event coverage would not be posted by default.
Other administrative matters included confirming the mowing contract award for the season and Ward's plan to include funds for tree trimming and additional veterans‑memorial money in next year’s budget. The meeting ended after a voice vote to adjourn.
