City staff provided updates Feb. 3 on the Marina and the municipal Airport as the city plans near-term openings and longer-term repairs.
Marina Director Sean Collins said the dry-storage building is on track for completion on March 15, with operations expected to begin within four to six weeks thereafter. The new forklift is scheduled to arrive around the same time; Collins said his office has 144 applications for 120 dry-storage spots and is confirming applicants. Consultant work on mooring-field repairs targets completion by September 2026; main-marina repairs are scheduled for Fall 2028 with a March 2028 operational shutdown. Collins said a pending agreement with the Yacht Club remains a gating issue for finalizing designs.
Airport Director Todd Scher said the airport has handled two carriers and can accommodate a third; American Airlines service is due to start Feb. 12, 2026. Scher said scheduling buffers and a city rate resolution that spaces departures by about an hour have helped operations. Phase II terminal modifications should be largely complete around March 1 to give passengers more screened waiting space; staff are exploring covered areas, mobile ticketing counters and revised parking scenarios tied to an FDOT grant. Scher said some federal grants require local matching funds.
Neither the Marina nor Airport topics produced formal council actions at the workshop; staff will return with contract revisions and parking concepts for council consideration.
