The Vero Beach City Council voted 5-0 on Feb. 10 to deny a property owner’s request to reduce a code-enforcement lien for 1967 36th Avenue.
City Clerk Sherri Philo introduced the request and Police Chief David Currey summarized the enforcement timeline: a warning citation issued June 10, 2025; a $50 civil penalty issued June 25, 2025; the case before the Code Enforcement Board on Sept. 10, 2025, when the board allowed 14 additional days to come into compliance; and a subsequent hearing. Chief Currey reported the property was found in compliance on Oct. 8, 2025. The recorded total lien, including fees, was $4,680.50; Chief Currey recommended against a reduction.
Councilmember Linda Moore moved to deny the lien-reduction request; Councilmember John Carroll seconded the motion. On a roll-call vote the motion passed 5-0 with Mayor John Cotugno, Vice Mayor Taylor Dingle, Moore, Carroll and Aaron Vos voting in favor.
The council’s denial leaves the lien in place; the record notes the applicant was not present at the meeting and no representative spoke on the record.
