During the public‑comment period at the Jan. 13 Vero Beach City Council meeting, residents of a local mobile home park urged the council to intervene after a landlord posted a notice warning of substantial rent increases tied to repairs prompted by code‑enforcement actions.
Danielle Miles, who said she is a senior on a fixed income and lives in Vero Beach Mobile Home Park, told the Council she started a petition and provided a written 'Legal Authority Exhibit' attached to the minutes. She said the landlord indicated he would raise rents so he could make repairs after enforcement activity; she asked the city for assistance. Charles Dos, who identified himself as a resident, described the situation as ongoing for roughly 16 years and said many residents are disabled or veterans on fixed incomes.
City Attorney John Turner said his office would review the materials provided and return to the resident with guidance. Mayor John Cotugno asked Mr. Dos to provide contact information to the City Attorney for follow-up.
Next steps
The City Attorney's office will review the submitted materials and contact the residents as requested.
