Walton council approves budget transfers, FY2025/26 budget and rezoning for truck stop

The actions came during a brief meeting held in Walton Council Chambers and online. Council member Amy Long moved to approve Ordinance 2025-08, an amendment to Ordinance 2024-07 that transfers funds among budget accounts “according to the attached exhibit” so the fiscal year will end in balance; Council member Dan Martin seconded. Upon roll call, Dan Martin, Sherry Gaskill, Amy Long, Rose Beach and Matt Brown voted yes. The minutes do not list dollar amounts or the exhibit’s line items.
Council member Sherry Gaskill then moved to approve Ordinance 2025-09, the city’s annual budget for the fiscal year July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026; Council member Rose Beach seconded. The five present council members voted unanimously to adopt the budget.
On a separate land-use matter, Council member Dan Martin moved to approve Ordinance 2025-10, which accepts a Boone County Planning Commission recommendation to rezone an approximately 18-acre parcel at 13019 Walton Verona Road from Commercial Services (C-3) to Commercial Services/Planned Development (C-3/PD). The rezoning allows the continuation of the existing Pilot Travel Centers gas station and truck stop and permits construction of an approximately 10,700-square-foot preventative maintenance and tire retail facility within the existing truck stop. Council member Sherry Gaskill seconded the motion; the five present council members voted yes.
There was no debate recorded in the minutes and no public comment noted. At 7:17 p.m. Council member Dan Martin moved to adjourn; Council member Sherry Gaskill seconded and the council voted to adjourn.
