Kennett council votes to shrink Planning & Zoning Board, remove certain voting seats

Council Member Dennis Pelts told the Kennett City Council on June 16 that reducing the Planning & Zoning Board’s size and removing certain ex‑officio voting seats would help ensure quorums and improve board responsiveness. Pelts said one member, Stephen Quinn, should be removed due to lack of availability.
Pelts moved to reduce the board from 12 to seven members and to remove the Mayor, a Council Member and the Code Enforcement Officer as voting members. Council Member Randy Carter seconded the motion, which carried. City Attorney Terry McVey was directed to prepare an ordinance reflecting the approved changes for presentation at the July 7 council meeting.
The change, as discussed, is procedural: the council approved the concept and asked the city attorney to draft the formal ordinance language. The council did not adopt final ordinance text at the June 16 meeting; any legal effect will follow the formal ordinance process and publication.
