Jackson Street reconstruction underway; mayor outlines multi-phase downtown plan

"Jackson Street's coming along well," Zacker said, adding that the work includes extensive underground infrastructure replacement and is the first of three phases tied to courthouse-area improvements and changing the main corridor to 2nd Street.
He said the city will vacate parts of 1st Street and Market Street as the main corridor shifts and that successive phases will close other roads temporarily as work progresses. Zacker said the finished project will improve mobility and downtown aesthetics.
No firm reopening dates were provided; Zacker and the host described the project as time-consuming due to the scope of utility work, but presenting long-term benefits for businesses and the public.
