Danville board honors students, teachers and bookkeepers at June meeting

The Danville City School Board recognized student and staff achievements at its June 4 meeting, presenting the inaugural Time to Shine Awards to schools and teachers across the division and publicly thanking school bookkeepers for their work.
Miss McCraw introduced the Time to Shine Awards, which the division used i-Ready diagnostic results to measure across reading and math proficiency and growth in grades K–8. She named school-level winners including Schoolfield Elementary, Westwood Middle School, Woodbury Hills, a Schoolfield 6th Grade academy cohort and Activate STEM Academy as the top overall growth school. McCraw said teacher recipients were recognized at schools before the end of the year and that door signs and a follow-up celebration are planned for the coming school year.
Miss Gilles led recognition of the division’s school bookkeepers, calling them “unsung heroes” who manage finances and support daily school operations. She read a list of staff invited to come forward for photos and thanked them for their work, noting the most recent school activity fund audit reflected high standards across the division.
Board members and staff posed for photos with winners and the bookkeepers. The board did not take formal action on the recognitions beyond the presentations; the items were presented for acknowledgement.
