Coastal Bend College touts workforce gains; Atascosa Historical Commission honored and 4‑H officers introduced

Dr. Lisa Quintanilla of Coastal Bend College told the Atascosa County Commissioners Court on July 13 that the college was recently recognized in a national innovation award and is focused on workforce education, student support and affordability. “We proudly celebrated ... 487 graduates,” Quintanilla said, and described a Coastal Bend Promise program that covers tuition for eligible local students who do not receive other financial aid.
Martin Gonzales accepted the Texas Historical Commission Distinguished Service Award on behalf of the Atascosa County Historical Commission for its 2025 work. Gonzales told commissioners the commission recorded about 3,000 volunteer hours, erected and restored historic markers, and conducted metal‑detection field searches that produced significant county finds. The court moved and voted to approve the award presentation and invited the historical commission to a group photograph.
The court also received the Atascosa County 4‑H annual report. Mallory Fay, outgoing county 4‑H chair, said the program’s enrollment rose sharply year‑over‑year and cited expanded youth participation and new projects such as dog shows and an entomology contest. Chloe Perkins introduced the 2026–27 county 4‑H officers and said the organization will continue community service and leadership activities in the county.
Commissioners thanked presenters and noted the community and workforce benefits from the college’s expansion and from local volunteer efforts in historic preservation and youth programs.
