Multiple trustees said the village lacks unilateral authority to enforce certain lake regulations and urged that any ordinance include clear enforcement procedures: who would issue citations, how ballast compliance would be monitored and what intermunicipal arrangements would be required. One trustee, identifying themselves as a port board member, said they expected two of the three municipalities that share the lake would need to adopt similar rules for the ordinance to be effective.
Trustees asked the lake group (referred to in the record as NEPCO/Nefco Lake) to provide draft ordinance language and recommended staff and the committee review enforcement details before bringing a proposal to a board vote. Correspondence from Nick Creeling, opposing the wake-boat restrictions, will be distributed at Saturday’s committee meeting so both proponents and opponents are represented.
Trustees agreed to revisit the issue next month after the committee meets Saturday to collect more information and draft language; no ordinance was adopted at the April 29 meeting.
