Benzie County commissioners approve bills, personnel appointment, tax levy and administrative policies

At its June 23 regular session the Benzie County Board of Commissioners took a set of routine but consequential administrative actions.
The board approved payment of bills from June 5–17, 2026, totaling $194,504.12. Commissioners also adopted a new County Cash Handling Policy and rescinded related prior policies after a motion by Gary Sauer, seconded by Len Mathieu.
On taxation matters, the board adopted the 2026 Summer L-4029 form, setting the fixed general operating millage rate and authorizing the chair to sign. The board also offered the Central Dispatch Director position to Deborah Roy contingent upon successful background and reference checks at a starting salary of $65,920, to be funded from the 261 Dispatch Fund.
The board approved an annual service agreement to provide 911 Central Dispatch, EMS services and emergency-manager oversight for the Ironman 70.3 Michigan race, and authorized a nonfinancial letter of recommendation supporting Merit Network Inc.’s Benzie Digital Navigator Initiative grant application; both motions passed by roll call.
Area Agency on Aging Executive Director Kandi Lannen presented her annual report; the minutes note a separate action item on the agency’s request will appear as part of the upcoming budget process. The board adjourned at 12:02 p.m.
