Applicant Gary Tagliaferri told the board he sought the porch to "improve the value of the house" and the property's aesthetics. Chairman Darrin Scalzo said front porches are an aesthetic improvement in several neighborhoods and that he had visited the site and had no concerns.
Board members reviewed the five variance factors and found no undesirable change to neighborhood character, no substantial variance, and no adverse physical or environmental effects. Siobhan Jablesnik recorded the unanimous vote to approve the Type 2 action under SEQRA.
The approval allows the applicant to move forward with permit applications and related construction reviews by the Building Department.
