Solomon Peters, who presided over the Claymont City Board of Education meeting, was elected president for 2026 at the board’s organizational meeting on Jan. 12, 2026 at the district Administrative Office. The board also installed Martha Campbell as vice president, approved its regular 2026 meeting schedule and committee appointments, and authorized routine administrative and financial powers for district officials.
The meeting opened at 6:00 p.m. with a roll call that listed board members Martha Campbell, Lois Grandison, Cyndy Host, Solomon Peters and Michelle Wolf present, and named district staff and other attendees including Superintendent Brian Rentsch and Treasurer Kim Beckley. Treasurer Kim Beckley administered the Board Member Oath of Office to newly elected board members Lois Grandison, Cyndy Host and Michelle Wolf.
Procedural motions moved the agenda forward. Cyndy Host moved and Martha Campbell seconded to approve the organizational meeting agenda; the motion carried on a roll-call vote with all five members voting yes. The board opened nominations for president; Host nominated Solomon Peters. In the election for president, the roll-call vote recorded Host yes, Campbell yes, Grandison yes, Peters abstain and Wolf yes, and the motion to elect Peters carried. Kim Beckley then administered the Oath of Office for President to Solomon Peters.
Solomon Peters opened nominations for vice president and nominated Martha Campbell. The board voted to elect Campbell as vice president for 2026; the roll-call vote was unanimous. The Treasurer administered the Oath of Office for Vice‑President to Campbell.
By unanimous roll-call vote the board approved Items A–O covering the board’s 2026 organizational actions. Those items establish the regular meeting schedule (monthly meetings at 6:00 p.m. at the Administrative Office with dates set from January through December, plus a June 30 special meeting), appoint board and administrative committee representatives (including OSBA legislative representative, policy, curriculum and finance assignments), and make administrative designations such as authorizing the Treasurer to sign payroll and warrant checks and to request county auditor advances and to invest interim funds. The board also established a Records Commission (Pres., Treasurer and Superintendent), retained the law firm Pepple & Waggoner as legal counsel, and authorized the Treasurer to sign telecommunications agreements as required to comply with E‑Rate rules.
As part of the organizational items the board set the mileage reimbursement rate to the IRS rate of $0.725 (72.5 cents) per mile and set the district minimum wage at the federal rate of $11.00 per hour. The board voted to authorize the Superintendent to employ teaching and nonteaching personnel as needed and to present names for board ratification at the next meeting.
The organizational meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn; the board adjourned at 6:09 p.m. The next regularly scheduled board meeting is listed for Feb. 9, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. at the Administrative Office.
