Hope-Page School Board approves rehire, recognizes teachers’ association and accepts FY22 audit

At its Feb. 8 meeting in Page, N.D., the Hope-Page School Board approved rehiring a business manager, recognized the Hope-Page Education Association under NDCC 15.1-16-10, approved the FY22 financial audit, set the June election date and approved a 1.5-day unpaid leave request among routine business.
The Hope-Page Public School District 85 board met Feb. 8, 2023, at Hope-Page Elementary in Page, N.D., and approved a series of routine personnel and financial items.
Board member Cindy Hiam moved and board member Nick Brendemuhl seconded a motion to approve the agenda as amended; the motion carried with five board members recorded as voting in favor. The board then approved the Jan. 11 regular meeting minutes and the January/February bill listings, both by recorded motions.
The finance committee recommended rehiring Alli Roller as business manager effective Feb. 15, 2023; the board approved the intent to rehire by motion, with the minutes recording five affirmative votes. The board also recognized the Hope-Page Education Association as the appropriate negotiating unit for licensed classroom teachers pursuant to North Dakota Century Code Section 15.1-16-10; that motion carried with the same recorded vote.
The board accepted the resignation of Bryan Lewis, effective at the end of the 2022–2023 school year. It set the school board election for June 13, 2023, noting three at-large positions are open, and moved the regular June meeting to June 26, 2023 in Page.
Craig Hashbarger of Widmer Roel presented the FY22 financial audit, and the board approved the audit by motion. The board also approved an unpaid-leave request for Shannon Opdahl for 1.5 days.
Superintendent Ian Grande provided a legislative update and noted he testified on SB2328. The board reviewed the negotiations timeline and was reminded that the superintendent evaluation is due March 15, 2023; members were asked to complete evaluations on Rocky Mountain Evaluations by Feb. 24.
The meeting adjourned at 7:35 PM following a motion by board member Cindy Hiam and a second by board member Lucas Juliuson.
