Fireward reports truck delay; floor collapse attributed to overcrowding and is being handled by state

At the April 28 meeting, Fireward Jim Bowles updated the Tamworth Select Board on fire-department matters, saying the new replacement truck is now expected "at best end of June but most likely September." He said the department will consider selling, auctioning or accepting sealed bids for older trucks.
Bowles said the department has not yet received a report from the state fire marshal on a recent floor collapse. "We know the cause," he said, and added that the collapse resulted from "too many people" attending an event for which no Place of Assembly permit had been requested or issued. Bowles said the town had filed a 91-A request and that the state is handling the inspection and related follow-up.
Board members asked questions about training and equipment. Doucette and Roberts discussed axle configurations while Bowles explained that engines require Class A certification for insurance coverage and that few residents are attending training classes.
The Select Board did not take new formal action on equipment disposition or the floor-collapse matter at the April 28 meeting. Bowles said the department is awaiting further information from the state and would inform the board when the marshal’s findings are available.
