Robins Park tennis courts closed after rapid deterioration; staff plans CIP resurfacing

Staff told the commission on July 14 that Robins Park tennis courts suffered rapid deterioration, likely from a freeze–thaw cycle, and that temporary patches have failed.
According to staff, US Tennis reviewed the court condition and advised that ‘‘nothing can be done’’ short of a full resurfacing. The village has temporarily closed the courts, removed nets, posted signs directing users to alternate courts and plans to include a full resurface in upcoming CIP proposals.
Why it matters: Residents who use the Robins courts will need to shift play to other village courts while the village budgets and schedules resurfacing work. Staff said they will continue to communicate with court users and pursue a resurfacing project through the CIP/budget process.
Next steps: staff will propose resurfacing in the CIP and update the commission as the budget and timeline are finalized.
