The Tompkins County Community Services Board voted to approve the Local Services Plan for 2027 after subcommittees reviewed objectives and suggested edits. The plan sets priorities including workforce development for behavioral-health roles, support for direct support professionals, planning for a crisis stabilization center, expanded peer supports and improved public communications about available services.
Harmony, who led the plan review, summarized changes after subcommittee input and noted items flagged in yellow still require work in 2026. Objectives highlighted for 2027 include building a qualified, diverse mental-health workforce, exploring new housing solutions, developing a communications plan to make OPWDD/OMH/OASIS services more visible to the public, and creating a local roadmap and website for families navigating developmental-disability services.
Harmony said the board will ask subcommittees to submit communications plans that the Community Services Board will synthesize into countywide outreach efforts. The plan also reopens work on peer support services to make peer positions billable in OPWDD-funded programs, and maintains a focus on adverse childhood experiences and school-based prevention.
A committee member moved to approve the Local Services Plan for review for 2027 and a board member seconded; the board approved the plan by voice vote. Subcommittees will continue to refine the highlighted tasks and return materials as needed.
