Huntington council accepts two Planning & Zoning applicants; zoning administrator outlines ordinance work

Huntington — Mayor Leonard Norton told the council that two Planning and Zoning vacancies had two applicants: Frankie Shantelle Kay and Josh Wagner. Council Member Gloria Wilson moved to accept both applicants; Council Member Judd Beagley seconded the motion and the appointments were approved.
Zoning Administrator Jessica Lee reported no zoning clearances were issued during the month, described resolution of sidewalk and parking complaints through certified letters, and said one business license was issued. Lee said she worked with Recorder Brandy Wagner and Todd Thorn on draft Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) and Flag Lot ordinances and noted several inquiries about property-setback requirements and a request by a landowner interested in building a primary residence plus three cabins on one parcel. She said the council discussed the possibility of adopting an ordinance to regulate or limit short-term rentals such as Airbnb.
Council did not take final ordinance action at the meeting; Lee’s report and the applicants’ acceptance move the staffing and ordinance work forward for future consideration.
