Huntington updates watering schedule after report of pond concerns; city water meets standards, mayor says

Huntington — At the June 17 council meeting Mayor Leonard Norton reported that the city has used 152 acre-feet of water so far this year, described steps taken after concerns about the pond running dry and announced a revised watering schedule to address pressure and conservation.
Under the new schedule, properties north of Center Street will water on Tuesdays and Fridays; properties south of Center Street will water on Mondays and Thursdays. Business watering days remain Wednesdays and either Saturday or Sunday. Watering hours remain midnight to 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. to midnight; residents were reminded not to water between 10:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Mayor Norton also noted that the Castle Valley Special Service District distributed its annual water quality report, which included backflow prevention requirements and confirmed the city’s drinking water met applicable water quality standards. He said preparations are underway for Heritage Days and that city staff have addressed the pond issue and changed watering patterns to reduce pressure concerns.
Council did not take formal action to change water rates at the meeting; Treasurer Ronni Torre flagged utility-rate considerations for a future discussion to align city rates with district-level changes.
