Police report steady June activity; fire department lauds community blood drive and parks see repairs after vandalism

Bristol’s police, fire and parks updates were on the council agenda on Thursday, July 16, with officials reporting routine public-safety activity and several community events.

Steve Green presented the police department’s June activity report, listing 13 in-custody arrests, 76 traffic citations, 15 warnings, 63 case reports, 24 accidents, and 12 vehicle recoveries. He said officers drove 15,243 miles and logged 67.27 hours of overtime during June and summarized code-enforcement actions including high-grass warnings, signs/devices warnings and illegal-parking citations.

Fire and emergency services staff reported high call volumes. Nick Katz told the council the department handled about 117 emergency calls in June and described ongoing busy conditions. He thanked the homecoming committee for organizing the festival and said the department’s community blood drive collected 18 units in about three hours. Katz noted a partnership with Belkirk City Fire Department to carry whole blood on their ambulance for local trauma needs.

Parks and recreation matters included work at Herman’s Park (plantings and a freshly painted basketball court), replacement of playground mulch at Camden Park ahead of homecoming, and planned mulch work at Cummins Park. Mike Yoder reported vandalism at Common Park, where rocks were removed from a riverbank and several outlet boxes were smashed; he said repair work will be scheduled.

Kathy Antonelli told the council she received an award from the Indiana League of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers, a peer-nominated recognition of her service.
