Joe said the suit would name the Montcalm County Board of Commissioners and "Patrick Hugh Carr" — which he identified as the board chairman — and threatened monetary claims and a preliminary injunction based on repeated efforts, he said, to "shut down" his comments at prior meetings. He said he had sought an apology and that, in its absence, he would seek legal recourse. He also said he had gathered signatures to run for county commissioner.
The chair did not respond to the substance of the allegations during the public-comment period; a motion to adjourn followed, was supported and the board adjourned. The board did not take any immediate action regarding the allegations at that meeting.
