UN outlines funding commitments and scaled assistance for Gaza and West Bank

The United Nations on July 16 reported new funding commitments and scaled assistance for people in Gaza and the occupied West Bank.
Ramiz Alakbarov, deputy special coordinator and resident humanitarian coordinator, welcomed nearly $58,000,000 in pledges from eight member states to the UN Horizon Fund to strengthen coordinated UN efforts in the occupied Palestinian territory. The press office encouraged additional partners to join the initiative.
The World Food Programme said displacement in Gaza is affecting access to services and assistance; despite access impediments earlier this month, the UN and partners provided general food assistance to more than a quarter of a million people across 36 distribution sites. The Food and Agriculture Organization said it scaled up a cash assistance program that will support roughly 1,500 Palestinian farmers for the 2026 planting season, intending to improve local vegetable production for around 100,000 people.
Humanitarian partners distributing education services reported the delivery of more than 5,440 educational kits, intended to help about 217,000 girls and boys during summer learning activities.
Separately, an OCHA delegation visited Deir Nidham in the Ramallah governorate to hear from families affected by settler violence and settlement expansion, underscoring protection risks and humanitarian consequences for daily life and livelihoods.
The press office called for continued international support to sustain assistance and to protect civilians and humanitarian operations.
