"The main thing, we're going from we always had to do 4 credits of English. Now it's gonna be 4 math instead of 3," the High School Principal (S10) said, explaining the shift and how certain agricultural and technical courses (for example, Ag Power Tech 1 and Architectural Engineering Design/CAD 2) will be eligible to count toward math credits. The principal said pathway electives span environmental and agricultural, health sciences, communication and information systems, industrial/manufacturing/engineering, business/marketing/management, and human services and resources.
School counselors and administrators described how 8th-grade Algebra I can now count as a high-school math credit under the new rules for students who complete it, allowing students to move into geometry as freshmen. Staff also described alignment work with Carl Albert State College to ensure pathway coursework can lead to associate degrees or college credit where appropriate.
The board discussed implementation and asked about curriculum alignment; administrators said they established vertical alignment and would continue to adjust course offerings annually. The board voted to approve the proposed coursework and pathway plan for FY 2027.
