A Grant County Health Department representative asked the council to appropriate $15,000 in unspent 2024 Health First Indiana funds for educational supplies.
The department said the funds would support its safe-sleep program (including safe-sleep sacks distributed to families when they request a birth certificate), school health liaison hygiene supplies and environmental-division outreach on bed-bug prevention for families unable to afford remediation. The presenter said a prior community agreement for $35,000 had used $20,000 and the remaining $15,000 needed appropriation before it could be spent.
Council members asked whether funds would be used for marketing or direct educational items; the health representative said the items are educational and programmatic (sacks, hygiene items, prevention supplies) rather than general marketing. The council moved, seconded and approved the appropriation by voice vote.
