Precinct 3 resident accuses McLennan County sheriff's office of corruption, urges commissioners to involve HR

Bryce Chapman, a Precinct 3 resident, used the July 16 McLennan County Commissioners Court public-comment period to accuse leaders at the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office of “dishonest or illegal behavior” and to urge county officials to involve human resources and consider leadership change.
“I proved instances of dishonesty to the highest levels of the department leaders at the sheriff’s office, and I was dismissed,” Chapman said, urging commissioners to speak with the county human resources division. He asked the court to recommend that Sheriff Parnell McNamara resign and that the commissioners appoint an interim with no internal ties to the current administration.
Chapman said he filed complaints with McLennan County human resources and that attempts to raise the issues led to his termination and a chilling effect on other employees: “There is no one else in that department who now is gonna feel safe to say anything … Fear. Tyranny.”
The court did not take formal action in response to Chapman’s remarks during the meeting. The presiding officer acknowledged the comment period and asked whether anyone else wished to speak; no immediate HR or investigative steps were announced on the record. The court then moved on to routine business and continued into its 2027 budget workshops.
Chapman’s statements are allegations presented during public comment. The sheriff’s office did not address the claims during the session, and no formal response or investigation outcome was presented to the court at that meeting. Commissioners did not vote on a referral or other action in open session before adjournment of the recorded agenda items.
