Berwyn council approves settlements, proclamations and multiple capital pay estimates

The Berwyn City Council on July 14 approved a series of routine and budgetary items, including a workers' compensation settlement, proclamations, an ordinance to add security fog systems to city code, multiple capital project payments and personnel actions.
City Attorney Ochsner asked the council to concur with a workers' compensation settlement for case 21WC025839 in the amount of $163,994.25; the council approved the settlement in open session after a roll-call vote (8 ayes).
The council also adopted proclamations honoring Roberto Alonso for his military service and leadership with American Legion Commodore Barry Post 256 and congratulating Berwyn native Brian Gutierrez for his participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The mayor and aldermen moved to fix necessary signatures and the motions carried by voice vote.
An ordinance to adopt Part 14, Title 6, Chapter 1482 into the codified ordinances regarding security fog systems was placed on its way to passage after the council concurred with the city attorney; roll-call vote recorded eight ayes.
Personnel actions included concurrence with the police chief's request to promote one officer to sergeant and authorization to hire two probationary officers to fill recent retirements; motions were approved by voice vote.

The City Council approved the City of Berwyn's Annual Action Plan for Program Year 2026 for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds and authorized submission to HUD.
The council waived the sealed bid process and authorized the purchase of a 2026 Chevrolet Colorado from Carl Automotive Group for $35,999.80 for the police capital budget. All motions related to pay estimates, procurement and the CDBG action plan were approved by roll-call votes with eight ayes reported unless otherwise noted.
