Historic commission approves 10‑foot slider at 1000 Queen Anne Road with historic‑window condition

The Howard Historic District and Historical Commission approved a certificate of appropriateness on July 15 for Wendy and Matthew Brune (case HH2026‑19) to expand an existing rear opening to accommodate a 10‑foot Anderson sliding door at 1000 Queen Anne Road.

Wendy Brune told the commission she was "proposing to expand an existing window on the back of the house to accommodate a 10 foot, Anderson slider, that will resemble the style of windows that are supposed to be in the house." The house is more than 100 years old on town assessment records, and Brune said other windows had been replaced before they bought the property; she asked that future like‑for‑like window replacements not require the commission's review.

Commissioners and staff agreed replacements should be historically accurate and match existing openings. The commission recorded a determination that the proposed partial demolition would not diminish the building's historic significance, imposed no demolition delay period and added an approval condition that replacement windows be historically accurate and the same size.
