Bridge board reports 108,837 crossings in June and a one-third jump in monthly revenue

The bridge authority reported a rise in traffic and revenue for June 2026, with total vehicle crossings of 108,837 and revenues of $2,327,207 for the month.

“For June these total 108,837,” Luis Bassan, bridge director, said in his monthly crossings and revenues report. Bassan told the board that June crossings represented an increase of 9,167 vehicles, or about 9.20% compared with the same month last fiscal year, and that year-to-date crossings were up roughly 7%.

Bassan provided port-level detail, citing a southbound car total of 52,818 (an increase of 10,059, or 23.52%). He gave daily averages for key crossings, including Brownsville at about 9,425 and Laredo at 14,354, and noted mixed trends among truck crossings: northbound truck crossings were 45,811 for June (up 4.6%), while southbound truck crossings totaled 56,019 (a 1.57% decrease year over year).

On revenue, Bassan said, “Revenues totaled 2,327,207 for the month of June,” an increase of $580,074, or 33.20%, over the same period last fiscal year. He attributed revenue growth largely to increased crossings and the toll structure, and he said year-to-date figures moved in a positive direction.

A board member asked about recent toll increases and the toll structure. Bassan said increases have been discussed for more than a year and cited a December 2025 change that affected hazardous-material and salvage-vehicle fees. He confirmed the authority charges by axle and weight but did not provide a full published toll schedule during the meeting.

The board did not take action tied to rates at the meeting; the report concluded with Bassan inviting questions from the board.
