Votes at a glance: Eunice Council approves minutes, date change, golf-cart lease, auditor and a daycare variance

The Eunice City Council on April 13 approved several routine and business items by unanimous roll-call votes.

Minutes: Councilor Ty Chanley moved and Councilor Erica Jones seconded approval of the March 23, 2026 regular meeting minutes; roll call was 7–0 (one absent) and the motion carried.

Resolution No. 3541 (May meeting date): Councilor Erica Jones moved and Councilor Gustavo Castaneda seconded a resolution to change the date of the council’s second May meeting to accommodate the mayor’s schedule; the council approved it unanimously.

Resolution No. 3542 (golf carts): Council approved entering a lease for twenty replacement golf carts after a recent fire destroyed much of the fleet. Manager Cummins said ten of thirteen carts had been destroyed and staff requested leasing twenty replacement carts to restore course operations. The motion carried on a unanimous roll call.

Auditor RFP: Council awarded the auditor contract in response to the RFP to Hinkle + Landers after the evaluation committee recommended that firm as best meeting the city's needs; the motion carried unanimously.

Variance — 901 9th St: Council approved a variance to allow an in‑home daycare at 901 9th St so the owner may pursue state certification; the motion carried on a unanimous roll call.

Ordinance No. 588 (second reading) was discussed but no action was taken; councilors asked for legal review and clarity about how combined positions would be categorized under the ordinance before moving forward.

All recorded roll-call votes on April 13 were unanimous in favor of the carried motions; one council member (Steve Almager) was recorded absent.
