At its Jan. 12 meeting, the Edgecombe County Board of Education approved a multi‑item consent agenda that included extended‑day and overnight field trips (STEM events, athletic travel and a Smithsonian/National Zoo trip), teacher‑cadet overnight experiences and multiple school fundraisers. Dr. Bryant reviewed the items before the board voted to approve the consent agenda by voice.
Later in the meeting a staff presenter described Budget Amendment No. 1 as technical corrections for rounding with totals unchanged. Board members had time to review the amendment and it moved forward without substantive objection.
The board then moved to enter closed session to discuss the disclosure of student records under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (20 U.S.C. § 1232g) and personnel records rendered confidential under North Carolina General Statutes (GS) 115C‑319 through 115C‑321. The motion to enter closed session was moved, seconded and approved by voice vote.
After returning to open session, the board approved personnel management items that had been discussed in closed session and approved the board's Dec. 15, 2025 closed session minutes. No additional details about the personnel matters were disclosed in open session. The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn that carried by voice vote.
