Forest Acres reports Richland Mall demolition complete; finance and police briefings provided

At its June 9 meeting the Forest Acres City Council heard several administrative updates: demolition of the former Richland Mall is complete, a site‑work contractor has been selected and work is expected to begin within roughly the next 30 days.
Assistant City Administrator Kendall Adams also reported on grant activity: federal legislative grant applications did not make final submission and S.C. Department of Public Safety (SCDPS) grant decisions will be considered by that agency in August 2026 with likely final determinations in October–November 2026. Staff said they are preparing materials for SCMIT and SCMIRF grant opportunities.
Finance Director Brittany Adams reported that as of the end of 2025 the city had received about 70% of expected revenues and recorded roughly 85% of anticipated expenses for the year. Police Chief Don Robinson presented May 2026 crime statistics and reported that public events in May were successful with no problems noted.
Mayor Andrews announced board vacancies and a forthcoming resignation from Susan Thomas on the Beautification Foundation; council member Stephen Oliver noted Austral Salon’s 40th anniversary in Forest Acres. A Forest Acres branding sign for the council chambers is scheduled for installation on June 15, 2026.
