Forest Acres City Council on June 9 unanimously approved a package of land‑use and contract measures that include two property annexations, a rezoning to low‑density residential, changes to the city’s noise ordinance and a cellular‑tower lease extension.
The council voted 4–0 to annex 6705 Vanwood Drive and 4715 Sylvan Drive into the city after City Attorney Will Dillard opened public hearings on the properties and recorded no public comment for or against the requests. On subsequent motions the council approved both annexations, each on a 4–0 vote.
Council also approved on second reading an ordinance changing the zoning for 1338 and 1346 Sunnyside Drive from PDD (Planned Development District) to R‑1 (Low Density Residential). The rezoning passed unanimously after the second reading.
Matters related to the noise ordinance and a cellular tower lease were deferred into executive session for legal and contractual discussion. After returning to open session, council voted 4–0 to approve an amended version of the noise ordinance (Chapter 10, Section 10‑11) and to adopt the cellular tower option and lease agreement with Alltel Corporation d/b/a Verizon Wireless, authorizing the City Administrator to sign the lease as amended.
Council also authorized city staff and the assistant city administrator to finalize negotiations for two technology and operations initiatives: the Smart Fleet Management and Route Optimization Initiative and an Integrated Law Enforcement Administration and Judicial Services Platform. Those authorizations were recorded as unanimous votes, with council directing staff to complete negotiations and return for any required approvals.
City Attorney Will Dillard and staff provided the procedural notices and legal context during the meeting; no public opposition to the annexations or ordinances was recorded at the hearings or in council debate. The meeting adjourned at 7:58 p.m.
Next steps: the annexations and ordinances become effective under the city’s normal codification process and the city administrator was authorized to execute the cell‑tower lease; staff will continue contract negotiations on the fleet and law‑enforcement platforms and report back to council as needed.
