Guadalupe County Hospital CEO Frank Tenorio asked the New Mexico State Board of Finance for a $220,000 emergency grant to replace an HVAC system at the hospital dental office that had been failing for about five years.
Tenorio described the facility as the only Rural Emergency Hospital in New Mexico and said the dental space is rented to Deep Blue Dental, the county’s sole dentist. He told the board that piecemeal repairs had failed and a replacement was underway and "the new system should be completed in another week." Tenorio said the hospital holds roughly $12 million invested in staggered certificates of deposit and that Medicaid accounts for about 30 percent of hospital revenue. He said he would consider using rolling CDs or taking a loan, and was willing to cover $160,000 initially and later indicated an additional $40,000 contribution (total $200,000) if needed.
After board discussion about limited emergency-fund resources and the possibility of a loan alternative, Tenorio said he had arranged a payment plan with the HVAC company and withdrew the request.
Outcome: Request withdrawn; no board action taken.
