Eunice public works reports culvert inspection, failed irrigation pump and delivery of new sanitation truck

Public Works Director Chalo Luna told the Eunice City Council on May 18 that the state inspected a culvert on Avenue A and will monitor repairs to ensure proper drainage. Luna said the inspection team “were not aware that it was there but will stay on it so it will drain correctly.”
Luna also reported that the sewer-plant irrigation pump that moves treated water to an irrigation field has failed; staff have obtained quotes to replace or rebuild the pump. Council later approved a budget adjustment of $18,260 to cover rebuilding the pump.
He said the new sanitation truck has arrived and that the engine and transmission carry a five-year warranty; the truck body has a one-year warranty. Luna said staff received a demonstration on operation of the vehicle. Luna added that water-department crews are sandblasting and coating the tank at the north well field and that the coating will be inspected after work is complete.
The council's closing remarks included recognition of Deputy Chief Burleson for participating in the Special Olympics Torch Run and an invitation from the city manager to inspect the new trash truck after the meeting.
