Eunice council approves $100,000 Lea County MOU, Trails+ grant and interim budget; OKs $18,260 pump rebuild

The Eunice City Council on May 18 unanimously approved four resolutions that fund local infrastructure and set the city's interim budget for fiscal year 2027.

Councilor Steve Almager moved and Councilor Ty Chanley seconded passage of Resolution No. 3551, accepting a $100,000 appropriation from Lea County District 5 and authorizing a memorandum of understanding with Lea County for golf course infrastructure improvements; the roll call vote was affirmative from all seven council members and the motion carried.

The council also approved Resolution No. 3553, moved by Councilor Almager and seconded by Councilor Edward Charo, to accept an Outdoor Recreation Trails+ Grant from the New Mexico Economic Development Department's Outdoor Recreation Division. The grant will fund construction of a walking trail and a floating dock at the city lake to improve public access and outdoor recreation.

Councilor Gustavo Castaneda moved and Councilor Ty Chanley seconded approval of Resolution No. 3549, adopting the City of Eunice's preliminary interim budget for Fiscal Year 2026–2027 and authorizing submission of the budget to the New Mexico Department of Finance and Administration for review.

The council also approved Resolution No. 3552, moved by Councilor Steve Almager and seconded by Councilor Gustavo Castaneda, to make a budget adjustment of $18,260 to rebuild the irrigation pump used at the wastewater facility. The city manager said quotes had been obtained to proceed with the work.

All four motions passed on unanimous roll call votes with the following members recorded as voting "Yes": Edward Charo, Steve Almager, Ty Chanley, Roxie Luster, Erica Jones, Gustavo Castaneda and Sheryl Allen.

The meeting record shows no amendments or dissent during the votes. The council adjourned at approximately 6:18 p.m.
