City departments report facility repairs, grant bids and public-safety updates

Gayla Rouse, Recreational Director, said youth-center attendance was 206 for January, described a roof leak caused by snow that is being quoted for repair, noted intermittent HVAC issues that resolved, and said exterior-project drawings from Unique Builders (expected Feb. 2) had not yet been received. She said pool-season planning has begun.
Library Director Tara Parker said she is soliciting bids for a new roof and window repair and will use library grant funds to purchase a new AC unit; she noted pending state legislation intended to provide additional funding to rural libraries.
Donna Roach, Senior Center Director, reported she has submitted grant paperwork to acquire vehicles, thanked the Eunice Community Foundation for sponsoring a Valentine dinner, and said she budgeted $27,000–$30,000 to serve anticipated additional senior meal requests from Monument after initial outreach for five residents.
Fire Chief John Dudley said the department completed an ISO audit and will receive results in about six weeks, and that the department purchased new bunker gear for $125,000 from the fire fund; he said retired gear is sold to a department in Mexico because it cannot be used domestically.
Police Chief Danny Garrett reported that emergency response during recent severe weather was uninterrupted after supervisors stayed in the city to ensure immediate deployment; there were no weather-related injuries, crashes or fatalities. He said the department is fully staffed, ordered new black uniforms funded by the LEPF, is evaluating 4x4 V6 vehicles (Ford Explorer-style) for future purchases, and expects a complete Policy and Procedures update by the end of March.
