Bonduel fire department to study building local training facility after neighboring site built without its input

Chief Kevin Lynch told the Village of Bonduel/Town of Hartland Fire Commission on June 18 that the department will study whether to build a local training facility after the Shawano and Keshena Fire Departments built a nearby site without Bonduel’s input and outside the village limits. The commission voted to authorize the department to gather permissions, and to research insurance and construction costs.
The move came after Lynch said the Bonduel department already has funds that could be used for a dedicated facility that would also allow the village to host regional training events. Lynch framed the proposal as an operational and training benefit: a site inside the village would keep training closer to local crews and could support regional exercises.
Commissioner Richard Streetman moved to authorize the research; Dave Bohm seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously. The record shows Chairperson Mark Miner, Chief Kevin Lynch, Dave Bohm, Russ Gehm, Tim Leitermann and Richard Streetman were present when the vote was taken.
Next steps are limited to fact-finding and permission-gathering; no construction contract or funding appropriation was approved at the meeting. The commission will review any findings or formal proposals at a future meeting.
