Rocky Ridge council authorizes mayor to sign contracts for donated sport court project

Council members authorized the mayor to execute contracts so contractors can begin work on a sport court project funded by a private donation. Christopher Allred and Lane Allred told the council contractors are prepared to begin immediately if the mayor is authorized to sign the necessary contracts.
The council was informed the donation will come from Quality Craft and that the project had been established in the town's capital project accounts so donated funds can flow through existing budget lines without additional appropriations. Council Member Chuck Todd moved to authorize the mayor to sign all contracts necessary to proceed; Council Member Joanna Covington seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.
Officials described the first phase of the project as approximately $412,000. That phase includes construction of south-side concrete courts; completion of four pickleball courts with fencing and playing surfaces; installation of ADA-accessible ramps; placement of tennis court fence posts with fencing and surfacing to be completed in a later phase; and repair of construction-related damage to surrounding sidewalks and walkways as later phases are finished.
The council did not take additional actions on project phasing or surfacing at the special meeting. The authorization allows the town to execute contracts and begin the first-phase work under the terms described.
