"This is gonna be the special town meeting to enact the moratorium on the data centers," the Chair said. The board noted that, if necessary, it could extend the moratorium for an additional 180 days.
Why it matters: a moratorium temporarily halts new projects and gives the planning board time to propose regulations, zoning language or permit conditions. The board emphasized the administrative steps needed to advertise the warrant and hold a public hearing ahead of the Aug. 20 meeting.
A resident inquired to confirm the date; the Chair reiterated Aug. 20 is scheduled to allow time for required newspaper advertising and public notice. No ordinance text was presented at the July 16 meeting; the planning board will draft the ordinance language and the town will publish hearing notices before the special meeting.
Procedural note: the board also announced an executive session next week under "MRSA subsection 4056 a" for personnel matters; that is separate from the data‑center moratorium item.
