ECPS will post comprehensive school-improvement plans; public feedback period runs through Oct. 30

District staff told the Edgecombe County Public Schools board on Oct. 13 that each school27s comprehensive improvement plan will be posted on the NCSTAR platform and the district website, with a public-comment window through Oct. 30 and final board approval scheduled for the November meeting.

"In Edgecombe County Public Schools, 100% of our schools use what we call the NCSTAR platform," a staff member said, explaining that the platform and printed PDFs will let families view goals, indicators and strategies. Staff said the plans cover exits from low-performing status as well as Title I and any federal TSI/CSI designations.

Staff outlined the timeline: public feedback through Oct. 30, school improvement teams will make adjustments Nov. 1-3, and the board will approve final plans in November for state submission. Staff also said the state just released a new approach making this a district-level redesignation year, requiring a district plan rather than only individual-school plans.

Board members asked staff to create a more public-friendly narrative that explains how a school can meet growth expectations yet still be designated low performing, and one member requested a work session with disaggregated data so the board and public can see which subgroups need targeted support.
