Trappe to send letter supporting Talbot County proposal to raise accommodations tax from 4% to 6%

Trappe — A Talbot County proposal to raise the accommodations tax from 4% to 6% moved a step forward on Dec. 4 when the Trappe Town Council voted to send a letter of support.
Cassandra Vanhooser presented the county’s accommodations tax code and said the county is considering raising the tax to 6%. The county collects the tax and remits each town its share minus a 5% service fee, Vanhooser said; she asked Trappe to send a letter supporting the proposed increase.
After brief discussion, Commissioner Chase moved that the town send a letter of support for increasing the accommodations tax from 4% to 6%. Commissioner Potter seconded. The vote was Newnam — abstain; Sullivan — yes; Schmidt — yes; Potter — yes; Chase — yes. The motion passed.
