North East finance director: 593 shutoff notices, $8,122 playground grant preliminarily approved; budget hearing set for May 25

At the May 11 meeting of the Town of North East Mayor and Commissioners, Director of Finance and Administration Kendrick (Ken) Natale delivered several administrative and fiscal updates that the board recorded in the meeting minutes.
Natale said the town would mail shutoff notices for the March 2016 quarterly water bills on Thursday, May 12; the number of notices being mailed is 593. He also reported that the town had been preliminarily approved for an $8,122 grant from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources’ Community Parks and Playgrounds program to acquire handicap-accessible playground equipment; final approval is subject to the Board of Public Works.
On benefits, Natale reported that the health insurance renewal came in with a 9% increase over the current fiscal year. He said the town expected to receive a quote from the Local Government Insurance Trust (LGIT) about joining its co-op within a week.
Natale also noted that the Constant Yield Tax Rate advertisement ran in the Cecil Whig on May 4 and that no calls had been received in response as of the meeting. He announced that a public hearing on the tax rate and budget will be held at the next Town Board meeting on Wednesday, May 25, 2016.
Separately, Chief of Police Darrell Hamilton reported that the Police Unity Tour from Los Angeles visited the North East Community Park on May 6. The board approved the invoices presented for payment and adjourned at 7:22 p.m.
