Board to consider zoning amendment for temporary on‑site housing during home renovations; county approves library funding

The Town Board on July 13 discussed a request to amend North East Zoning Ordinance Article 6, Section 6‑5 (storage of boats, trailers, recreational vehicles and similar) to allow homeowners displaced by renovations to remain on their property temporarily in RVs or travel trailers.
Mayor Robert F. McKnight and Commissioner Eric Braley raised the issue during new business, noting there are currently no provisions allowing homeowners to stay on property for a limited time while making major home improvements. Commissioner Braley said parameters would be required before the board could consider an amendment. Town Administrator Melissa B. Cook‑MacKenzie asked Director of Planning and Zoning Betsy Vennell to attend the July 27 meeting with recommendations.
In related unfinished business, Mayor McKnight reported that Cecil County approved funding for a new library intended to serve the town for the next 50 years. The town and Acting Director of Cecil County Public Library Morgan Miller are working on grant applications; the minutes state the county approved 100 percent of funding this year and that the town will be kept updated.
No ordinance amendment was approved on July 13; the matter was scheduled for further discussion with Planning and Zoning input at the next meeting.
