North East approves updates to water-distribution specs and switches to Kennedy K-81AWC hydrants

The Town of North East adopted revised Water Standard Specifications for distribution and approved the Kennedy Valve K-81AWC as the new fire hydrant standard to reduce future excavations, following presentations from the water superintendent.
Ronald Carter, superintendent of the Town of North East Water Department, presented the April operational reports for the Rolling Mill and Leslie Water Plants at the May 25 meeting and proposed updates to the town's Water Standard Specifications covering sections W-1, W-2, W-3, W-4, W-15, W-16 and W-18.
Commissioner Michael Kline moved to approve the proposed specification changes and Commissioner Eric Braley seconded; the board approved the measure unanimously.
Mr. Carter also proposed replacing the current fire hydrant specification with the Kennedy Valve K-81AWC fire hydrant, which town staff said would ‘‘virtually eliminate the need for future excavations to replace a hydrant.’’ Commissioner Braley moved the change, Commissioner Paul Stark seconded, and the board approved the change unanimously.
The votes were recorded as unanimous among Mayor Robert F. McKnight and Commissioners Michael Kline, Paul Stark, Hilary Crothers-Moore and Eric Braley.
