North East opens FY2016–17 budget hearing; board approves contingency transfers and purchase orders

The Town of North East opened a public hearing on the proposed Fiscal Year 2016–2017 General Fund and Water Fund budgets at 7:02 p.m. May 25. Mayor Robert F. McKnight reviewed highlights of projected revenues and expenditures and invited public comment before closing the hearing at 7:25 p.m.
Derek DeWitt, interim executive director of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Cecil County, thanked the mayor and commissioners and described the club’s goals while seeking consideration of a grant request. Director of Finance and Administration Ken Natale told the board he is continuing work on the FY2016–17 budget report; Mayor McKnight later thanked Natale for his budget presentation.
On motions approved unanimously, the board authorized the use of FY2016 contingency funds and transfers to capital projects; approved Purchase Order No. 05272016-001 to A.C. Schulte’s of Maryland, Inc. for $5,760 to repair a filter lift pump at the Leslie Water Treatment Plant; and approved Purchase Order No. 05272016-002 to Nichols Excavation Inc. for $10,413 for paving and yard repairs. The board also approved the invoices presented for payment and approved the minutes of May 11, 2015.
All motions recorded in the minutes were approved by all commissioners present: Mayor Robert F. McKnight and Commissioners Michael Kline, Paul Stark, Hilary Crothers-Moore and Eric Braley.
The meeting ended at 8:15 p.m. with a unanimous motion to adjourn.
