North East commissioners adopt zoning amendment allowing cross-dock facilities

The Town of North East’s board of commissioners voted to adopt Ordinance No. 2017-02-01, a zoning amendment that would allow cross-dock facilities by right in certain zoning districts.
At a public hearing called by Mayor Robert F. McKnight, Betsy Vennell, Director of Planning and Zoning, said the Planning Commission recommended approval and that no public commenters had signed up to testify. Mayor McKnight closed the hearing at 7:08 p.m. and Commissioner Michael Kline moved to approve the ordinance; Commissioner Paul Stark seconded the motion, which the board approved.
Developer Brandon M. Freel of Caves Valley Partners thanked the town for adopting the ordinance and praised town staff for their professionalism in working with his firm. The ordinance was entered into the record during prior meetings and was the subject of the hearing held by the board on Feb. 22, 2017.
The ordinance text as adopted was identified in the meeting as Ordinance No. 2017-02-01; an effective date was not specified during the meeting.
