The Village of Bonduel/Town of Hartland Fire Commission voted unanimously April 16 to reinstate a firefighter under a one-year probationary period following a closed-session review of performance and attendance. The motion, offered by Commissioner Russ Gehm and seconded by Commissioner Kevin Watermolen, carried on a recorded roll call after the commission met in closed session under Wis. Stat. §19.85(1)(c).
The commission required the reinstated firefighter to complete online training as necessary to ensure all certifications remain current and directed that a performance reevaluation be conducted after six months. The closed session began at 5:52 p.m.; the body returned to open session at 6:09 p.m., and the reinstatement motion was approved before adjournment at 6:19 p.m.
Commissioners cited personnel review as the basis for using the statutory exemption for closed deliberations. No individual names tied to the personnel action were disclosed in the open record of the meeting.
