At its March 8 meeting, the Hope‑Page Public School District 85 board approved several program and personnel items, including creation of a 4‑year‑old Pre‑K program for 2023–24 and authorization to pursue approval from the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction.
The board approved an open enrollment request and a tuition waiver for a 7th‑grade Sundstrom family student transferring from Maple Valley School District. It accepted the resignation of Gilbert Balnig effective at the end of the 2022–23 school year. The board approved coaching contracts for Maple River cooperative softball coaches (Ian Grande and Cassie Preston) and a track coach (Brandon Benth). It also approved a teacher contract for Austin Dvirnak to teach 7–12 science and adopted the 2023–24 school year calendar.
The board voted to approve a petition recognizing the Hope‑Page Education Association (HPEA) as a representative organization; that motion was moved by Luke Juliuson and seconded by Cindy Hiam and recorded as carried unanimously. All other listed motions on these items were also recorded as unanimous in favor (Kainz, Ihry, Juliuson, Hiam, Larck).
These approvals are recorded in the meeting minutes; where the minutes show motions and votes, this article reports the mover, seconder and unanimous outcomes as recorded. The Pre‑K item includes a plan to seek state approval; funding sources and implementation details were not specified in the minutes.
