Claymont City Board approves personnel changes, contracts, $5,000 donation and college‑credit MOU

At its Jan. 12 meeting the Claymont City Board of Education voted 5–0 to approve a package of superintendent and treasurer recommendations including personnel appointments, contracts for technology services, a $5,000 donation for an intermediate‑school program and an MOU with Kent State University for College Credit Plus.
The Claymont City Board of Education voted 5–0 Monday to approve a slate of personnel appointments, vendor contracts, a district donation and a college‑credit memorandum of understanding.
Mr. Peters, board president, presided over the regular meeting at the Claymont Administrative Office. Treasurer Kim Beckley reviewed the district's December financial presentation before the board voted to approve the financial report and payment of bills. The board also accepted a $5,000 donation from the Uhrichsville Eagles to support the Intermediate School's “Girls with Pearls” program.
The board approved the superintendent's recommendations (items A–O) on a single motion moved by Mrs. Grandison and seconded by Ms. Campbell. Among the approvals were: designation of Aubrey Somers as an early 2026 graduate of Claymont High School; an unpaid leave for Alexis Stallman effective Feb. 24–Apr. 21, 2026; the hiring of Samual Schafer as a full‑time preferred substitute custodian at $15 per hour effective Jan. 6, 2026; retroactive approval of Brandy Bishop as a certified ELA substitute at $90 per day for Jan. 5–9, 2026; and a partial mentor payment of $498 to Ian Meiser.
The board also approved administrative and operational items including payment at $27 per hour for district professional development and calendar committee members; approval of Joyce Mehok as a preschool classroom volunteer for 2025–2026; an overnight 6th grade camp trip scheduled for Oct. 26–28, 2026; and the Memorandum of Understanding with Kent State University for College Credit Plus for the 2026–2027 school year.
District contracts approved as presented included internet services through OME‑RESA using E‑Rate funding, a Congruex contract for fiber removal and set‑up to the central office, and a Laketec contract for UPS unit services also using E‑Rate. The board also approved the district's annual Ohio School Boards Association membership for 2026 at a cost of $8,398.
All motions described above were approved by roll call vote with Ms. Campbell, Mrs. Grandison, Mrs. Host, Mr. Peters and Mrs. Wolf voting yes. The board adjourned at 6:39 p.m.; its next regular meeting is scheduled for Feb. 9, 2026 at 6:00 p.m. at the Claymont Administrative Office.
